What would happen if I tried with this videocard?
Hello, I wanted to play guildwars on my old computer.
It has a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 model 64/64 pro.
When running guildwars it gives me a popup saying unsupported videocard etc etc, I checked the link and sure enough nvidia TNT2 is listed. But what would happen if I still tried?
The rest of the specs for the comp is:
Intel Pentium 4 1800MHz, 512MB SDRam, etc etc, so as you can see the rest meets the minimum requirements. The graphics card used to be a decent one, sadly my dear sister managed to fry it (with The Sims 2, curse that game!).
So, would I dare give this a try? Or is there a chance of me managing to fry this video card too?
Thanks for any answers

I wouldn't push it... If GW doesn't want a v-card.. well I never did this but when I think about... I see your v-card being a white-disabled ghost and GW being pac-man.

Just playing a game wouldn't "fry" a graphics card, well saying that the more stress it's under the more heat it can produce, so heat possibly killed your card. My sister plays the sims2 with a Radeon 7000, doesn't play it well but it works.
If guildwars states it will run with a TNT then try it... Just make sure your PC is running cool and not overheating.

That's what I used to think too, but the computer had been on for less than 5 minutes, she started the game and there was a loud *pioooffffffffff* sound, the comp went off and the graphics card was stonedead.
Then again the card was very old and I had been pushing it to its limits for 3 years (I also overclock whenever possible, that's just the way I am :P ).

It's a list over unsupported hardware, not supported. So they're stating that it WONT run ^^

As cannonfodder said, there's no way that playing a certain game with your video card is going to directly kill it. Now, if you're overclocking your card and it goes poof on you...well...I don't think one should be that surprised about that!
When I visit my parents I run GW on a laptop with a Mobility Radeon 7500, which is listed as unsupported, and the game runs fine if I drop the detail levels to low settings. A TNT2 may or may not run GW, but you can be pretty sure it's not going to run it very well. It's not going to kill your card, though. Just run the card at in-spec clockspeeds and you'll be fine!

You may want to try the intel onboard video card work around (the thread is stickey at the top of this forum) if it doesn't work off the bat.

I had an Nvidia GeForce 2 MX 400, and it ran fine on that card, except I was missing some cape details, and I think that is why it is listed as unsupported.
